“As the regulator of Broadcasting Services in Australia, ACMA (Australian Communications and Media Authority) role also encompasses Equipment Requirements – ‘Technical Standards relating to items of customer equipment’..”

ACMA has now determined a Technical Standard to make Parental Lock a required feature of digital television receivers sold in Australia from 4 February 2011.”

So if you are in the market for a new set top box make sure you ask if it has parental lock.

Many people find it very difficult to connect a DVD, Set Top Box, etc to a television. I use a simple analogy when looking at this issue. If you poured a glass of water from one glass to another it is the same principle as setting up a DVD. With the water, we are pouring water “from” one glass “into’ another. It is the same when connecting devices. We are simply transferring signal “from” one device “into” another. With a DVD player/Set Top Box, we are connecting our AV cable to the AV out (from) sockets on the DVD to the Audio “in” sockets on the television. If you follow this analogy when connecting devices you should never go wrong. Another tip is to do a simple schematic drawing of what you are trying to connect. This will help to understand the connections and hence make it a simple task. Once connected, simply turn on the TV and adjust the TV to the type of AV input mode used (AV1,S Video, HDMI, RGB, etc) and away you go.

With the recent increases in Electricity costs in NSW, many consumers and Businesses are looking at alternative means of reducing their power consumption costs. We have found a number of handy devices that will assist in reducing your running costs of everyday home and business equipment.

The following devices represent a number of options that can be used for a variety of home and business appliances, all aimed at shutting down the power to a device versus leaving the appliance sitting in standby. Do remember, while a device sits in standby mode, it is consuming electricity and at the same time consuming your money.

1) Powertran Energy Saving 4 Way Power/Surge Board

This device allows a master appliance (ie TV) to switch on/off slave appliances automatically, such as receiver, DVD player etc. A constant power outlet is provided for your PVR/DVD recorder. Can drastically cut standby power usage!

Power Outlets:

CONSTANT POWER Provides constant 240V surge protected power source for devices which need to run all the time ie: digital video recorder, DVD recorder, clock, charging dock etc.

MASTER OUTLET Plug in your computer or TV to automatically switch on or off all related appliances plugged into the slave outlets.

SLAVE OUTLETS Plug in the related appliances you wish to turn on and off automatically, such as:
• Printer • Monitor • Scanner • Speaker system • DVD player • Tuner • Amplifier • Gaming console • Media player • Network peripherals

http://leert.com.au/433cube///index.php?searchStr=p8132&_a=viewCat&ccUser=eec1c8c47c1df82400915fd7516be954

2) Wireless 3 Outlet Mains Controller

The ultimate accessory for the couch potato. No need to get up from the cricket when you need to turn the fan on. Simply plug in any mains appliance rated up to 10A and use the remote to turn each one on or off individually, or control all of them together. One of the outlets also has an LED night light that’s also operated with the remote, so you can see where you’re going if you have to get up during the night or keep a night light on for the kiddies, then turn it off after the boogyman has gone for the night. Not just for the bone lazy, it also has other real benefits for the elderly, disabled or for making sure the TV and other appliances are turned off at the mains before you go to bed.

• 433MHz
• Remote battery included
• 10A, 2400W rated

http://leert.com.au/433cube///index.php?searchStr=MS6142&_a=viewCat

3) Remote Controlled 240V Mains Outlets

Switch any mains appliance rated up to 10A on or off remotely. You can control up to three separate devices and switch them individually. Simply plug your appliance into the socket, set the channel for each outlet and away you go. Ideal for the disabled, elderly or for that device that is a real pain to turn on and off all the time.

• Range: 30mFrequency: 433.92MHz
• Max Power: 2500W (10A)
• 3 outlets

http://leert.com.au/433cube///index.php?searchStr=MS6140&_a=viewCat

4) Mains Standby Power Saver with IR Receiver

Save on energy bills, reduce your carbon footprint and prolong the lifespan of your electricals. This energy saving device eliminates the needless power consumed by your appliances when they are in standby or idle mode. With your appliances plugged into this unit, once it detects that they are in standby mode, it will switch them off completely after a short delay. The easy-program infrared receiver will read your remote signals, so switching all your appliances on again is as simple as pressing the on button on the remote control for your TV, DVD, or home theatre system. Saving energy has never been this easy.
